No matter what size or shape you
are, comfortable, well-fitted and
supportive undergarments are the
key to good-looking outer garments.
According to Janet Muller, managing
director of Pandora Bra Studios, a
specialist network of professional bra-
fitting studios, most women are not taught
the importance of caring for their breasts
and wearing a well-fitting bra.
The absence of muscle in the breasts
leaves a lot at the mercy of gravity, and
the incorrect bra size will lead to further
loss of tone and result in droopy breasts.
In order to put off the inevitable, women
should know their correct bra size. We
should also have our measurements
checked every time we lose or gain
weight, or go through hormonal changes
Bra-buying basics
The bra should feel
comfortable, like a
second skin.
The back
strap should sit
comfortably, just
below your shoulder
blades. If it rides up
at the back, the back
size is too big.
The shoulder straps
should fit firmly
on your shoulders
without slipping off
or leaving welts.
If your breasts are
spilling out of your
bra cups, the cup
size is too small.
Look in the mirror,
standing sideways.
Your nipple should
be positioned
halfway between
your shoulder and
your elbow. If this is
not the case, either
the size or the style of
the bra is incorrect.
Move around in
the bra. Lift your
arms. If it does not
feel comfortable,
don't buy it.
The correct fit
Put yourself into the cup by leaning forward into the bra, with your nipples in the centre of the cups, then fasten the bra at the
back. The bra should sit properly and comfortably under the breasts, and evenly around the back under the shoulder blades.
Care tip
Always wash
your bras
by hand.
Machine-
washing can
cause the
underwire
to pierce
the fabric
and lead to
unnecessary
wringing,
shortening
the life of
your bra.
