The perfect wedding colour
Help a reader choose a stunning colour scheme for her upcoming wedding...
Question:
How do I choose the perfect colour scheme for my wedding? What's hot this year?

A very good question and the answer ties in with quite a few of the previous questions of other readers.
Well, I always say to clients, let your venue determine your décor, in combination with your style and personalities. That then indirectly influences your choice of flowers.
Should you be more of a country Bride, this would mean that longer stems, like Calla lilies, may not be suitable to that specific look.
Chat to your florist, brain storm ideas. Get pictures together to serve as inspiration and remember to have your meetings at your venue.
Lastly, keep it timeless, and do NOT be too trend driven. It is not a corporate launch, but you're BIG Day, that you only have once.
Your location will really determine which direction you should be going. Consider the time of day that you will be hosting your big day. Should it be a luncheon celebration, you should be careful going to OTT. Also, a fantastic outdoor venue should not be spoiled by too much decor competing with the natural surroundings: your theme should rather enhance the venue and views. For example, be careful of the use of the colour blue at a naturally green winelands venue.
Black and white as a colour scheme used to be very big. Mmmmm, all over now. Black is now replaced by charcoal or grey.
You cannot go wrong with doing a crisp white ceremony. Clean, yet opulent. With pre-dinner drinks you can introduce a more fun and upbeat colour scheme, to show that the celebration is starting now. Then you can tone down the colour scheme once again for dinner.
Whatever you do, remember, you wish to look at your photos in 15 years from now, and think "Wow!!!" So keep your reception timeless.
So what is hot for this season?
Texture is big. Different patterns on other different unique patterns.
Charcoal and white as a main colour scheme.
Royal blue in combination with off white and white.
Opulence. Less is more, that's why, and more is so much more.
White on white still very big.
Vintage royal colours and furniture.
Be very careful to throw all of the above together. Shabby chic is over now.

Good luck with the planning.
