Hi everyone
Don't you love it when a public holiday sneaks up on you? Especially when it's on a Monday. Hurrah!
What do you have planned for Women's Day? I've booked my favourite mommy friend, Rosie, and we're going to do, well... whatever the hell we please.
Rosie is a godsend in my life, because she lives in a large, messy manner – like me – and drops balls and picks them up again and parents with all her heart and loves with all her soul and worries she spends too much time recuperating from her lifestyle, but then does it all over again, because... well, there's fun to be had and laughter to be shared.
But mostly, I love Rosie because she loves me exactly the way I love her, so spending time with her is a grinning, huggy chick fest of affirmation.
This morning, with the launch of the Lead SA campaign, I thought about what I wanted to say to you for Women's Day and I realised I – like most of us – am also in a particularly proud headspace. Not just of South Africa, but particularly the brave SA women that I know and love, either from close up or through the interwebs.
And that includes not just Rosie, but many of you.
So this Women's Day, I'm taking some time aside to re-pledge myself to some brave women-friendly behaviours that I think change lives.
- I'm going to love my body because it has me in it.
- I'm going to revel in the bits of me that are different, because those are the bits that set me apart... in a good way.
- I'm going to stop worrying about women who judge me negatively because of my lifestyle choices, and focus rather on the women who love me for exactly the same reasons.
- I am going to pledge monthly donations to women making a difference, who don't need puffery and praise, but rather actual money.
But most importantly, I am going to live my own life bravely and true to my own moral core, not some perceived standard of Womanhood... because if we all did that: we'd be free.
Please send through your own personal Women's Day pledges, so we can share our fabulousness.
Aluta continua
P.S.Oh, and thanks for all the well wishes re: my spider bite. And the jokes about my new spider senses and the fact that I am now a true Web Woman. And the pics of necrotic spider bites. And the pics of girls in Spidergirl outfits or body paint. And... well, enough now. :-)
