I’ve always loved my Blackberry and when I first got it, I enjoyed BBM as it was so easy to stay in contact with others. I even enjoyed the constant updates people feel necessary to share with others.
Recently I feel though that I’d like a new phone. I’ve even switched off the update feature because watching endless bragging and pointless rants (why not tell the person you are cross with that you are cross?) has been a bit tiring. But then I wonder what I’m missing – how sad is that?!
I’ve realised that people’s statuses on my BBM contact list can be summarised as follows:
1. The venter.
Loves to rant endlessly. Starts slowly and then builds up from there – lots of swearing and red angry faces. Ends off after a day or so with the wine picture. Entertaining at first but it gets exhausting – I feel like asking her to actually tell the person who is causing the upset that she is pissed off (said person is no doubt not on the contacts list). The rest of us just sit watching this circus with no idea what the show is actually about.
I get that you went shopping, had supper out, had a fantastic holiday etc etc. The endless updates of your fabulous life don’t need to be broadcasted with day by day brag notes. So are reposting birthday pics of a birthday you invited hardly anyone on your contacts list to. Then lots of “had so much fun that evening”. Considering it was nearly 5 months ago, maybe it is time to move on?
3. The “I don’t update very often” contact
Ha – did I fall for this lie. Said person then updated status no less than 4 times in the next 24 hours. Endless pictures are put on from a cheesy family session with a professional photographer and then used over and over. Vomit of note.
4. The never updates anything contact. Weeks go by with the same status and then when you e-mail them, they say they don’t have a BB anymore – they have an iPhone (lucky!)
5. The repeat updater. Puts the same status on and when no-one comments on the sad/sick/cross face emoticon they do it again. And again. And again. 5 updates in less than a day. With the same status.
6. The nice to have contact.
They post cool quotes, quirky pictures and are generally happy people who don’t have issues and hang ups. The BBM function on their phone isn’t there for any other reason other than to stay in contact with people. I have a couple of these and they make me actually want to keep my phone.
What do you hate (or love) about BBM?
