At least once a day, my Firefox Mozilla browser crashes. I admit I usually have about nine tabs open (I multitask, okay?) but surely this program, which is designed to work with multiple tabs, would be able to handle a measly nine tabs?
So, my screen turns white, the browser says "Not Responding" and for five torturous minutes my mouse won't move. I'm sure a normal person would just go and make a cup of coffee and maintain their sanity. But I'm not normal.
So, out of frustration I click my mouse over and over again (I have to do something, right?) then eventually decide this is a pointless exercise and I clench my jaw and stare at a blank screen. Aaaaaargh. Finally the inevitable error message pops up:
"A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding…"
Just great. There go my nine – okay, eleven – tabs as I shut down my browser, reopen it and try to remember what I was trying to do in the first place.
It drives me up the wall.
Then there are the stupid Adobe updates that want to run every couple of days. These are followed by a prompt that requests that I RESTART my computer. When I still have seven Word documents open, nine tabs I'm browsing online, two e-mails I'm drafting and I'm smack dab in the middle of listening to my favourite song? You're kidding.
So what's a girl to do? Well, I conducted research on the topic – by which I mean, I took off my earphones, leaned over my desk and asked my colleagues them what pisses them off about their PCS.
• Tammy, our book babe, whines at least once a week when her mailbox shuts down for no reason.
• Meagan has to keep asking if we received an email which she sent half an hour ago. (This is when we usually notice that none of us have received any emails from her mail for about an hour.)
• Our editor, Lili, often accidentally closes Word documents without saving them. (Lili? This is not your computer's fault. Save the draft, dammit.)
A few weeks ago, I simply had to vent about the most annoying thing about the internet. Then it turned out most of you feel exactly the same way!
So, surely I can't be alone in this... Vent with me. It'll brighten up my day.
