QUESTION
Hi Ashley,
I have been with this company for 9 years, however the work I am doing well, it's going on 15 years. So I have been doing the same job but just for different companies.
I have a new manager now (4 months) and she is driving me up the wall. I have been patient. I have done the "smile and wave", but she just continues to micro manage every little thing. I am a senior in the dept and just yesterday she made a junior person come to me and tell me that I am not doing my work like she wants it to be. Why didn't she just come to me herself?
So, of course, i got upset and lashed out. Bad on my part I know. But the manager walks around and comes to me as if nothing of the sort happened. Every little thing goes on your performance appraisals. But you don't get told, you sort of get threatened.
You get reprimanded for being 5 minutes late and I do mean 5 minutes. Nothing you do is good enough and you feel demotivated. I discussed this with her manager at one point and of course it gets turned around and you get told "Aw shame she's new give her time". How much time. It's just getting worse. I have tried so many times and I have just had enough.
There are so many other smaller things and I must say in my years at this company, I have never felt so miserable coming to work. In fact I hate being here. The work is amazing but she just takes that away.
I don't want to leave the company, but I am seriously considering it. Just to get away from her. She is a nightmare.
It's always a highlight when she says "You cant talk to me like that" or "Just remember I AM THE MANAGER". Yet she gets to have hissy fits and you're not because "I will bring HR into this". Just because you said you don't agree.
I would love to know what you think and what advise you can give. Thank you!
