Wear white
Traditionally brides would wear white to symbolise their purity, but half of us have been de-flowered looong before our big day anyway. Besides, there’s no rule that says that if you don’t wear white, you’re not a virgin... Right?
Have a bridal party
Your wedding is about the two of you so there’s no need to add other people if you don’t feel the need. It’s expensive and a little old-fashioned. And, you know, not all of your single girl friends want to be bridesmaids. Just a thought!
Have Daddy walk you down the aisle
Both parents can walk you down the aisle, so can your older or younger brother or maybe you’d just like to walk by yourself.
Do stupid (traditional) dances
Remember, you don’t have to dance to anything, and you don't have to stick to traditional songs if you and your loved one don't like them. Heck, play heavy metal if you feel like it! If you don't like Frank Sinatra, and your great-aunt twice removed wants to have you walk down to "My Way", don't do it. If she wanted to have that song played, she should have it at her wedding!
Invite the extended family
If you’re on a budget, invite close friends and family to the wedding, no one else. You don’t have to invite the people you don’t see and speak to, what’s the point? They only come to see your dress, eat the food, complain about the music and then they leave… they’re not going to add to your day, are they?
The same applies when inviting colleagues to your wedding. Yes, there are a few that you may be friends with, but you don’t have to invite your boss if you're not close.
Say a Speech
Many of us are not public speakers. It may be easy for some, but others remember that embarrassing speech for years after their wedding day… So, if you’re not a public speaker, ask someone else to do the Thank You’s for you. Or skip it altogether.
Give out wedding favours
It’s outdated and expensive. A simple printed Thank You note should do, and if not, the guests should be happy to leave with their tummies full for the evening.
Throw your bouquet (or have your garter shot at anyone!)
Some brides want to keep their bouquets in a vase in their new home, you know? Some have borrowed that garter from someone else… Most of your single girlfriends would be thankful for that little non-gesture as well!
Be Skinny
If you’re a big woman and you’ve always been a big woman, why on earth are you trying to lose weight before the big day? Your wedding is about you being your beautiful self. And the skinny ladies attending your wedding will probably be wishing they had your boobs anyway so chillout.
Serve cake
In true wedding tradition there is usually a cake in the centre of the reception hall and you and hubby have to cut it and feed it to each other… What if your husband is a diabetic? What if you don’t like cake? What if you prefer to have a chocolate fountain and fresh fruit for dessert? This is your wedding day, and you get to decide what works for you.
