Tough one - if you and your partner are hosting an engagement party to celebrate then I would suggest you both chip in to make it work. Depends how traditional you are. Sometimes one of the parents would like to host a party on behalf of their respective daughter / son, in this case they would usually fit the bill. Work together and contribute according to your income so it's fair. Good luck
