Renounced by J.Lilley (Lycaon Press)
Now, in book 2, Renounced, we join Leira as she experiences life as a “mere mortal” after renouncing her heritage on her sixteenth birthday.
As daughter of the leader of the Shalean tribe, Leira has always known her place, always understood her powers.
She’s used to “hearing voices”, preferring telepathy to more conventional conversation. What she doesn’t like so much anymore is having a “mate” already picked out for her.
Donny is wonderful and handsome, over-protective and always inside her head.
At just 16, she realises that her life has been planned for her and in a fit of anger at Donny and his possessive behaviour, she renounces her powers – all she’s ever known - choosing instead to experience life as a human.
Now she only has until the next Shalean moon to make a final decision about her future.
Expecting to finally be alone with her thoughts, she finds her mind invaded by a voice which taunts her, testing her limits now that she has no power and no protection.
A voice that hopes to lead her towards a darker path. Towards the rebellion. Will she be drawn into their web or will she return to Shalea? Only Leira can decide…
I haven't had a chance to read the other books in the series, but am definitely going to make a point of doing so. I would HIGHLY recommend this book.
The author has a genuine and easy writing style and seems to have a good grasp of the workings of the teenage mind. This story delivers everything you'd want in a good read. Intrigue, drama, danger, romance, comedy and family.
With a touch of magic. I think that J.Lilley is an author that will continue to be on my reading list for a long time!
