My Single Friend

Who says men and women can’t be friends?

My Single Friend  by Jane Costello (Pocket Books)

Lucy Tyler and Henry Fox have been best friends since primary school. They know everything there is to know about each other and are joined at the hip.

Lucy is the outgoing one who is forever on a mission to find a new outfit for a new date, while Henry is the geek who doesn’t do too well with the fairer sex. He is the one who Lucy runs to after a bad date – which happens all too often. Being clumsy by nature, before the date even begins she is always seems to be setting herself up for some kind of disaster.

Henry seeks Lucy’s help with the whole dating thing, which her and her two girl friends take very seriously. A haircut, wardrobe makeover and some flirting lessons later, and Henry is irresistible.

Being roommates, Lucy finds herself at home, alone more often while Henry is doing the dating, successful dating at that. She has no one to cry to about a failed date or for advice. She finds herself living with the man of many girls’ dreams.

While the storyline may be a cliché, it is a humorous one with real problems that everyday people face. The characters were likeable and the plot was interesting.

It is one of those books where you think you can predict the ending but then something happens which makes you doubt your prediction and eventually you just can’t stop turning pages to see what the actual outcome is.

A chick lit romance filled with laughs, love, romance and wit.
